FBB EXCLUSIVE! DC Announces New Title Spinning Out of Superman #701

Amazingly enough, I don’t think this sequence even cracked the Top Three for things that bothered me about this issue!

  1. I like Eddie Barrows’ work, but that smug look on Superman’s face is too much.

Not only is Superman a smartass, he is kind of a dick to everyone.

  2. DC Editor: Eddie? You got it!
Eddie Barrows: I got the Superman gig?
DC Editor: Hell yeah! You’re in the big time. And JMS is writing it!
Eddie Barrows: Holy crap! That’s like a dream come true. I’ll get to draw fantastic outerspace…
DCE: Well, JMS is keeping him on Earth for the first year.
EB: Oh? That’s cool. I can understand that. But I’ll get to draw him in amazing flying comba…
DCE: Actually, when I say “on Earth”, I mean grounded completely.
    EB: …
    DCE: Eddie?
EB: Hmmm…I guess that can work. It’ll be challenging to show him handling all the fights without…
DCE: JMS is just going to have him walk around the country rediscovering America.
    EB: …
    DCE: Eddie?
EB: When I find out which one of my studiomates put you up to this, they’re dead!
    DCE: But Eddie!
    EB: (dialtone)

  3. Is this an actual page, with the real dialogue from JMS’ Superman run? He really needs to be in the full get up just to ‘explore’?
Maybe it’ll work better in the trade.

  4. I liked parts of the issue. Anything’s better than James Robinson, and I do mean ANYTHING, but thankfully it wasn’t as stilted and heavy handed as JMS’ awful prologue.

That said, would it have killed DC editorial to at least send Eddy Barrows SOME reference material? How fucking hard is that?

  5. And by this, I mean I’m a resident of Philadelphia, and this looks like no Philadelphia I’ve ever been to. It’s GEnerictown, USA. And since Straczynski has, at least once, actually been to Philadelphia…

  6. I understand that Straczynski really likes walk, as confirmed by Midnight Nation and its backmatter, but Superman is not the place. And Superman is not suppose to be an asshole.

  7. You guys, Superman can’t be Clark Kent. He fucking hates reporters!
