Funnybook Babylon: The Crossword Puzzle!

Filed under: Articles — Chris Eckert @ 1:17 pm

Forget podcasts: all the cool kids are doing crossword puzzles now! And unlike Wally, you don’t even have to have a near-death experience and find one in a gutter to be a cool kid!

This is my first attempt at making a puzzle, and there are half a dozen clues that I deserve to get kicked in the nuts for using. In fact, one of them involves kicking someone in the nuts! These shameful clues/’words’ are indicated in red.

Download the puzzle in PDF or PUZ today!

It also occurs to me that a couple of the clues are incredibly obscure. Here are two IMPORTANT HINTS. Everything else should be easy to Google if you are some kind of cheater.

  1. Hey, just wanted to let you know that I’m slowly working through this (though I had to cheat like crazy so far, guess I don’t do crossword puzzles often enough). Right now I need a hint for 54-Across — the only phrase I can think of that would fit is “People die when they are killed” but (a) that’s just too damn many letters and (b) I don’t think it’s well known outside of the anime fandom, and even there it’s still not that popular.

  2. […] of all, have you tried Chris’s insanely difficult crossword puzzle yet? I say “tried” not “done” because – no you haven’t. It is […]

  3. Hi, I grabbed this crossword, as well as plenty others, while I was self-testing a “crossword maker” in javascript and DOM, which makes things as easy as if it were Visual Basic. Needless to say I had a lot of fun with my toy and curiously I’m not tired yet.
So, I made this grid and now I would know the answers but obviously it’s a level of thinking far beyond my abilities.
Where can I find the solution?
So far I know the answer for 61. Purple ninja from Mortal Kombat.
Thanks anyway. It’s a bit of a challenge!

  4. Actually I had found half of the answers since 2019 but I gave up for I could never check any of them.
    Who has the solution ?
When I’ll have the whole grid I may sleep again :)
