David Brothers joins us for a post-Con recap. It’s really just a collection of anecdotes, but it’s better organized than last year’s Posse Cut. In keeping with our co-option of rap tropes, here are our linernote shoutouts:
Big ups to David and the 4L Crew, Popcultureshock, Tucker Stone, Tim “Tical” Callahan and the guys at Sequart, Douglas Wolk, Notorious B.L.O.M., Julian Lytle, D-п, Evan Dorkin, Harold Sipe, Shena, Cam’ron Stewart, Peter Milligan, ASP, Sgt. Rock, Jeff & Jay, Irish John, Adam Rosenlund, Liz and the Adult Swim team, Weep, Steve Seagle, Laura Hudson and Leigh Walton. And of course, D-Uzi and all of those who couldn’t be there.
And now, we don’t have to walk to the Javits for a year and a half!
About Mobfire: While I never read the series, I remember the Vertigo “Jam” issue that introduced the Mobfire titles. In the 90s, Vertigo would put out these one-shot samplers. This particular sampler made it a point to introduce newer issues by referencing older issues. So you had something like Sandman and then the next page is the Books of Magic issue that highlights “Death.” I remember the Mobfire promo had the same explicit reference, with Hellblazer and then showing Mobfire as kind of a spin-off book. I remember the sample even had a mention of John Constantine (rather than just JC). But it seems like it was changed in editorial, which is interesting. I wonder if there was a switch in Vertigo policy somewhere mid-stream.

So Claremont has written X-Men: The End, GeNext, and now X-Men Forever. The pattern that emerges here deserves a discussion, I think.

Just for clarification, the Rankin book for the Vertigo Crime line is starring the actual John Constantine.
